Toddler Egg Bites (Oven-Baked, Freezer-Friendly Recipe)
Some mornings call for something sweet, like our Banana Oat Pancakes or Banana Oat Muffins — and other mornings, my toddler wants nothing to do with anything resembling dessert-for-breakfast. That’s when these toddler egg bites come out of the freezer. They’re soft, a little cheesy, and packed with enough protein that I don’t worry if breakfast ends up being the biggest meal of her day.
The best part is that you make a whole batch at once, and then breakfast for the rest of the week is just a matter of reheating.

Why Make This |
High protein, customizable, freezes well |
Why This Recipe Works for Toddlers
- Good source of protein. Eggs provide protein and other nutrients, making these egg bites a useful part of a varied toddler breakfast.
- Soft, easy-to-chew texture. Gentle baking helps these egg bites stay tender rather than becoming rubbery.
- Fully customizable. Swap in whatever vegetables or soft cheese you have on hand.
- Freezer-friendly. A batch made on Sunday can cover several breakfasts during the week.
As with any single food, toddler egg bites work best as part of a varied plate — pairing them with a piece of fruit or some toast covers more nutritional bases.
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk (dairy or a fortified non-dairy milk)
- 1/3 cup shredded soft cheese (like mild cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1/4 cup finely diced or grated vegetables (spinach, bell pepper, or zucchini work well)
- Salt: Optional — the cheese provides plenty of flavor, so you can leave it out
- Butter or oil, for greasing the tin
How to Make Toddler Egg Bites
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C) and grease a standard muffin tin well, or use silicone muffin cups.
- Whisk the eggs. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and a small pinch of salt until well combined.
- Add the mix-ins. Stir in the shredded cheese and finely diced vegetables.
- Fill the tin. Divide the mixture evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the centers are set and no longer jiggly. For an extra food-safety check, the center should reach 160°F (71°C) on a food thermometer.
- Cool for a few minutes before running a butter knife around the edges to loosen and remove.

Notes
- Fridge: Once cooled, refrigerate the egg bites promptly in a covered container and use within 3–4 days.
- Freezer: Freeze in a single layer on a tray, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
- Reheat: Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat until heated through. If reheating from frozen in the microwave, use short intervals and check the center before serving.

Serving Ideas for Toddlers
- Let these yummy toddler food egg bites cool until just warm before serving — the centers hold heat longer than they appear to.
- Cut larger egg bites in half or into smaller pieces for younger toddlers or those newer to chewing firmer textures.
- Serve alongside a piece of soft fruit or a few whole wheat toast strips for a more complete breakfast.
Keep mealtimes seated and supervised and adjust the size of pieces to what your child handles comfortably.

Storage and Freezer Instructions
- Fridge: Once cooled, refrigerate the toddler egg bites promptly in a covered container and use within 3–4 days.
- Freezer: Freeze in a single layer on a tray, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
- Reheat: Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat until heated through. If reheating from frozen in the microwave, use short intervals and check the center before serving.
Easy Variations
- Dairy-free: Skip the cheese and use a fortified non-dairy milk.
- Add more vegetables: Finely diced mushrooms, grated carrot, or cooked broccoli work well folded in.
- Different cheese: Swap cheddar for a mild, pasteurized cheese such as mozzarella. If using a saltier cheese such as feta or Parmesan, use a small amount.
- Creamier variation: Add a tablespoon of cottage cheese to the egg mixture for a slightly creamier texture.
A Note on Food Safety
- Keep mealtime seated and supervised. Have your child sit upright while eating and avoid eating while walking, riding in a car, or sitting in a stroller.
- Let egg bites cool to a safe, warm (not hot) temperature before serving, since the centers retain heat.
- Cut into smaller pieces for toddlers who are still developing their chewing skills, rather than offering a whole egg bite. HealthyChildren.org’s guidance on choking prevention is a helpful general reference for sizing food safely for young children.
- If your child has an egg allergy, this recipe isn’t suitable as written — check with your child’s doctor or allergist about alternatives.
